Colchester & Cruise In Essex & Suffolk 22nd - 26th September

COST PER PERSON: £585 PER PERSON

Includes Beth Chatto’s Gardens

Join us on our visit to the East coast where we will explore the region’s beautiful countryside and quaint villages, as well as enjoy lovely gardens, a river cruise and discover the fascinating history of Colchester.

Our first visit is to Beth Chatto’s gardens, once an overgrown wasteland and now an inspiration to all visitors. We continue on to the lovely seaside resort of Frinton-on-Sea, with it’s tree-lined avenues and elegant esplanade for some time at leisure.

Colchester was Britain’s first city and the former capital of Roman Britain, so we will have a full day to explore this fascinating city at leisure and see the many important and unique Roman sites and ruins. There are five museums and galleries within two minutes walk of each other, so spend the day discovering about it’s history from the Iron Age, through Roman and Norman times to the present day. As well as the Castle Museum, visit the only known Roman Circus in Britain and the winding streets of the Dutch Quarter.

Today we visit Lavenham, known as ‘England’s Finest Medieval Village’ due to it’s fine examples of timber framed Tudor buildings. We also stop in Flatford, home to the 16th century mill made famous in Constable’s paintings. We end in Waldringfield to board MV Jahan for a cruise on the River Deben, one of the most beautiful spots on the East coast. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit while you soak in the views.
