Highlights of The Peak District 14th - 18th July

COST PER PERSON: £595 PER PERSON

Includes Hardwick Hall & Chatsworth

We begin by visiting Hardwick Hall, a spectacular Elizabethan country house built in the 1500s by ‘Bess of Hardwick’, and filled with rich furnishings and tapestries preserved by successive generations of the Devonshire family. We will have plenty of time to discover the stories of Hardwick and enjoy the beautiful landscape it is set within. We continue on to the market town of Chesterfield, dominated by it’s famous crooked spire, where we have time to explore the shops and cafes.

Today we travel to Chatsworth House where we will have a guided tour to explore the magnificent Painted Hall, State Rooms, Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery, before enjoying the spectacular gardens. We finish with a stop in beautiful Bakewell, home of the famous pudding. Located on the river Wye, it is a painter’s paradise with it’s stone buildings, 5-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards.

Finally we travel to the thermal spa town of Buxton, home of the famous water. We begin with the Buxton Crescent Experience, set within the stunning Grade 1 listed Crescent building which has just had a £70 million facelift, restoring it to it’s former glory. We will have a guided tour of the nine themed rooms, including the sunken oval pool where the 5000-year-old mineral water still rises from the ground, finishing off with a tasting. After some free time in Buxton for lunch, we finish our day with a drive through the nearby ‘hidden villages’ for a step-on guided tour.
