Christmas Markets
in Bruges & Ghent
13th - 16th December 2021
There can be few settings more beautiful at Christmas than medieval Bruges, with its cobbled streets, historic buildings and horse drawn carts plodding by. Considered to be one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, the city’s prosperity reached a peak in the 13th & 14th Centuries, through the manufacture and trading of high quality textiles, and all this wealth has left an impressive legacy of medieval townhouses and architectural masterpieces like the Gothic-style Stadhuis (Town Hall) and the delightful Begijnof (Convent).
Life in Bruges centres on the market square, bordered by guildhalls and towered over by the magnificent 13th Century belfry, where the 366 step ascent to its summit is rewarded with panoramic views.
The Christmas Market on the main square forms a ring around an open-air ice rink, with stalls selling sweets, handmade decorations and gifts. Wander in any di-rection from the market square to discover historic churches, picturesque cobbled streets and, of course, those irresistible chocolate shops.
We will also travel to Ghent, where the city centre will again be turned into a win-ter wonderland and an ice-skating rink will be installed under the City Pavilion. En-joy the view of Ghent from the giant Ferris wheel in front of St. Bavo’s Cathedral. Ghent is home to the famous Graslei and Korenlei areas arguably one of the most beautiful spots in the country with a stunning skyline of preserved medieval port houses and buildings.
Due to the historic nature of Bruges, it is not possible to drop at the hotel, so there is a short level walk from the drop off point to the hotel.
