Scarborough Fair

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

3rd - 7th June 2020

Scarborough, arguably the oldest seaside resort in Britain, advocated sea bathing more than a century before Regency Brighton! This tour is a nostalgic look back at all forms of transport and fairground rides from a bygone era.

Our first full day excursion starts with a visit to The Scarborough Fair Collection which hosts a magnificent working collection of Vintage Cars, Steam Engines, Vin-tage Fairground Rides, Mechanical Organs and a ‘Mighty’ Wurlitzer Organ. We then take a scenic drive to Whitby, where the steep maze of cobbled streets are a testament to its ancient seafaring traditions and was where Captain Cook learned his trade. After some time at leisure for lunch we will then board the North York Moors Steam Railway and experience the age of steam for the 24 miles journey through the beautiful vistas of the North York Moors National Park.

You will have a free day at leisure in Scarborough, with the chance to explore the Spa town, visit the castle or perhaps the sea life centre. There is plenty to see in the narrow streets of old Scarborough, as they rise up to the dominant castle walls.

Day 2 excursion takes us to York where we start with a visit to the National Rail-way Museum. You will have some time at leisure and for lunch and then we travel to the nearby Yorkshire Air Museum which sits on the site of former RAF Elving-ton, a World War Two airfield used extensively by Allied bomber crews during the war. It is also the home of the The Allied Air Forces Memorial.
