The Best of Brecon

& The Royal Mint

5th - 9th September 2020

We start this tour with a scenic drive up through the wooded Wye Valley, with a stop at Tintern Abbey, the first Cistercian Abbey in Wales. We will also have time for some lunch in the spectacularly pretty market town of Monmouth.

On our first full day excursion you will learn more about where your coins are made with a tour of The Royal Mint. We then visit Cowbridge, voted the “Best Place to Live in Wales” in 2017. The town is full of sophisticated independent shops, cafés, and a ruined castle. It’s then on to Dyffryn Gardens in the Vale of Gla-morgan. A Grade 1 Edwardian garden of 55 acres, it is not just one garden but a series of outdoor rooms. Set among broad, sweeping lawns, and beautiful scenery are flowers and rare trees, an arboretum, and a wild garden.

You will also have a free day at leisure. This attractive resort offers an expansive beach and Coney Beach, a fairground which was named after the famous New York venue. To the East of the town lies the beautiful Glamorgan Heritage Coast.

Day 2 excursion starts with a ride on the spectacular newly extended Brecon Mountain Railway, which passes along the shores of the magnificent Taf Fechan Reservoir before it winds its way up high into the heart of the Beacons National Park, We then travel to Brecon, where you will have some time at leisure before our return journey to the hotel taking in more of the stunning views in the Park.

Our return journey will include a stop at Tredegar House, a 17th-century mansion which for over five hundred years was home to the one of the most powerful and influential families in the area.
